PTO Meeting this Thursday 2/16 at 7PM

Does your child ever ignore ignore?

Do you ever feel like a broken record?

Come to this month’s PTO meeting, you won’t want to miss it.

When: Thursday, February 16th 7:00 – 8:30

Where: Findley Library

Topic: Positive Discipline

Positive Discipline is an approach to parenting created by Jane Nelsen and made famous in the Positive Discipline series of books written by Jane Nelsen, Cheryl Irwin, Lynn Lott, Mary Hughes and others. It is a proactive approach to parenting that is neither permissive nor punitive. It is based on strategies of kindness and firmness that effectively develop responsibility, self reliance, cooperation and problem solving skills. Children have two important needs: to feel a sense of significance (that they matter) and a sense of connection. When children have opportunities to meet these needs, they are much more likely to have a sense of well being and are much less likely to misbehave. Discipline and life skills must be consciously taught; P.D. provides parents with ideas and strategies to do this crucial work in a way that gives them a sense of competence and confidence.

The speaker’s name is Glenda Montgomery and she is a parent educator in Portland Oregon. She has taught elementary school in both Canada and the United States, using Positive Discipline techniques in the classroom since 1986. She began teaching “Parenting the Positive Discipline Way” in 1999 when her youngest was in preschool and has been leading parenting classes and workshops in Portland since that time. Since 2006, she has offered One-On-One Parent Coaching. In 2008, she became a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer, trained and certified by the national Positive Discipline Association to prepare both classroom teachers and parent educators to teach Positive Discipline tools and techniques. Since 2011, she has become a Lead Trainer, certified to facilitate C.P.D.T. training.

The presentation will run for one hour and fifteen minutes and will introduce the topic of PD. Everyone is welcome to attend! Non-Findley parents are welcome too.
